Ohio to Get $1M for Taking Frack Water

ST. Clairsville - Greg Bizzarri not opposed to industry natural gas drilling, but wants to ensure East Ohio does not become swamped by sewage in Pennsylvania.

"I do not want us just being a dumping ground in Pennsylvania," said Bizzarri, president of the Belmont County Canton. "People need to think about what this will give us 10 or 20 years down the road."

For months, the gas drillers in Pennsylvania tapping into the Marcellus Shale has been shipping the hydraulic fracturing or fracture, the waste is from Ohio. The Buckeye State is on pace to win almost $ 1 million in fees from outside the state-drillers to accept brine.

The amount of wastewater Ohio accepted from outside the state drillers soared 25 percent in the first quarter of 2011 compared to last quarter of 2010, probably in part because officials of Pennsylvania this year has increased the pressure on the fracturing drillers to keep waste out of the surface water, said Tom Tomastik Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Drillers' have to do something with this waste, "said Pam Melotti, Director of Services WTC gas field, one of several new carriers to ship registered in Ohio."There are many potential customers. Our customers have called me and they want to know," What shall we do? "... So, yes, they are very interested in that."

Pennsylvania has six active wells deep disposal injection, all in the western half of the state, but state records Department of Environmental Protection show drillers rely heavily on the Ohio to take their waste . The companies sent nearly 14.8 million gallons for the landfill over the last six months of 2010, the latest statistics available.

With the Marcellus Shale and Utica drilling rush now firmly in place in East Ohio - highlighted by the state registration David Hill Inc 13,727 feet of vertical depth and the highest places of Kirkwood could become a well of injection of salt water used for other drilling sites - Belmont County is fast becoming the site of greatest activity.
